Doctor Gareth James

Dr Gareth James MRCGP is an experienced GP and President of the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC), with particular expertise in vasectomy, community-based surgical services and men’s reproductive health.

Having qualified in 1991, he spent much of his career in general practice, including 23 years as a GP partner, and personally performed more than 3,000 vasectomies. For nearly two decades, he has been involved in national vasectomy research, audit and policy and established the UK’s national vasectomy audit, which now includes data from more than 150,000 procedures across over 100 providers.

Dr James is also Independent External Adviser for MSI Reproductive Choices UK’s vasectomy service and has worked closely with leading sexual and reproductive healthcare organisations to improve information and access to vasectomy. His work explores not only clinical best practice, but also patient choice, access to services and the wider role of vasectomy within men’s health and contraception.
